10 Tips on How to Do Your Nails at Home

Doing your nails at home is a more fun and cheaper alternative than paying someone to do them. However, when you do your nails at home they may not come out as nice as if you had a professional do them. Do you want to learn some tips on how to get great looking nails at home? The tips I am going to tell you are not very complicated and will give you a great looking manicure. Keep reading below to find 10 tips on how to do your nails at home.

Apply a clear coat of polish as a base:

A base coat will help whatever color you choose to last longer. Also, if you have any ridges or dents in your nails the base coat will fill them in and allow the polish to look smooth.

Do not shake your nail polish:

Shaking it can cause air bubbles which can make painting your nails difficult. Instead, roll the bottle between your hands to warm up the polish so it will be easier to apply.

When painting your nails use the three stroke method:

The three-stroke method is where you dip your brush in a decent amount of polish. Then you guide the polish to the left side of your nail, then the right, and lastly, down the middle.

Apply thin coats of polish:

Applying thin coats of polish will allow the polish to dry faster, meaning there is less of a chance for your polish to smudge.

Apply no more than 3 coats of polish:

The best option would be to do one-two coats, one-two coats are enough to cover your nail but also won’t create a thick layer of polish on your nails. You may have to apply more than two coats depending on the color you chose.

Keep nail polish on your nails, make sure it is not on your cuticles or skin:

Doing this will keep your nail polish from chipping, it will make your nails look nicer, and at the end require less clean up.

Don’t touch your nail to see if the polish is dry:

This can cause smudging which you want to avoid at all costs, instead touch two of your nails together. If they stick you know your polish is not dry if they don’t stick you are ready to apply the top coat.

Apply a top coat:

Applying a top coat will keep your nail polish from chipping, as well as make your manicure last longer. It will also add some shine to your nails.

Make sure you add some top coat to the tip of your nail:

Swiping some top coat over the tip of your nail will seal your nail completely so your polish will stay in place longer.

Clean up:

If you have to clean up excess nail polish around your nail the healthiest options to do this are water or baby oil.
